This website received its jumpstart
from unit material
given to me by Arthur J. Gaines who served
with the
106th during WWII. Without his help this site would
not be possible and I am forever grateful

Welcome To Our Website
We call it
our website because most of the content is
brought to us from actual members of the 106th during WWII -
and their family members. This website began with a
few photos and graphics left to me by my father, James J.
"Red" Devereaux. My dad was a cook in the 106th,
making meals for the wounded on restricted diets. I
don't recall many stories from the war, and as a cook, I
suppose he would be the last to know what was going on.
But he came through unscathed - and I can really appreciate
that because otherwise I wouldn't be here!
While working
this site I came in touch with Art Gaines, who was a medic
attached to the 106th. Now he had stories to
tell. I received many letters from Art over the years
and I intend to scan and publish them here one day.
The man was sharp as can be right up to his death in 2010.
I felt a tremendous loss when Art passed away and he's very
much missed.
I enjoy getting
email from the children and grand-children (and now
great-grandchildren) of those who served in the 106th.
If you happen to come by this site, send a quick note to say
hello. Be sure to mention your relationship to the
unit member.
This website
continues to evolve. We've had numerous communications
over the years about unit members, spelling errors,
omissions, photos, updates, and such. We very much
appreciate those who help our site and we look forward to
even more communications in the years to come!
Received
communication from Col.
William
McKell Hadly and his daughter on Commanding Officer, Colonel
William A. Hadly, who served the 106th from 20 May 1943 to
19 Feb 1945. As we receive materials we will be
posting |
